The field survey, which consisted of shovel testing and pedestrian survey, was performed to identify prehistoric and/or historic resources that might be impacted by the proposed coal mining, and if found, to evaluate whether or not the cultural material might be eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
The archaeological survey was conducted in accordance with the Division of Mine Permits, Kentucky Department for Natural Resources regulations 405 KAR Sections 8:010, 8:020, 8:030, 8:040, and 24:040 (revised June 28, 1989). The survey follows the Specifications for Conducting Fieldwork and Preparing Cultural Resource Assessment Reports (Sanders 2006) issued by the Kentucky Heritage Council (KHC).
